Why Social Media and Appts. Don’t Go Hand in Hand

At Suburban Pediatrics, we want every child to grow to their fullest potential by being both physically and mentally healthy. Your child’s well-being is our primary focus at every appointment. We want to use that time to answer your questions, address any concerns and give all of our undivided attention to your child. After all, we’re on your child’s team!

As a devoted teammate, we love to celebrate every step in your child’s life from an infant, to a toddler, to a child, to a teen and at last a college student. We understand how exciting a “first” can be in your child’s life and your desire to capture it – whether it’s your child’s first time being checked with a stethoscope or even their first shot.Suburban Pediatrics follows social media privacy guidelines to ensure an effective, safe medical appointment

And with today’s social media, it’s so easy to share these moments with family and friends. Unfortunately, we have to ask that you don’t film appointments or put on Facebook Live or Instagram. We understand that it’s exciting to share these firsts in your child’s life. But as a teammate, we have to ensure that we protect your child’s medical privacy.

What is HIPAA?

While we won’t get too technical, here’s a brief summary of the privacy laws we follow as health specialists:

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has a Privacy Act that protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information held or transmitted by a covered entity or its business associate, in any form or medium, whether electronic, on paper, or oral. Videos of your child’s doctor’s appointments fall under this act.

Our main focus

In addition to the HIPAA restraints, we also want cameras put away so we can focus on your child as well as your concerns as a parent.

“Your child comes first to us at Suburban Pediatrics. That’s why we want to take away any distraction and focus on our priority as the doctor and your priority as a parent – the care of your child,” says Dr. Ronna Schneider.

If you have any questions about our filming/social media policy, please talk to your nurse before your next appointment.
